Discover the benefits of assisted living facilities that specialize in memory care.
Memory care communities specialize in caring for people with various dementias, most commonly Alzheimer's, Lewy Body, Parkinson's, or Vascular (dementia caused by strokes). There are some communities that specialize in memory care only and some that are within a larger assisted living community.
Up to three hours of skilled nursing care per week may be provided (i.e. wound care, feeding tube, IV therapy).
Most memory care facilities require residents to have an activated power of attorney to be admitted; however, activation is not an industry regulation so there are exceptions. Activated means two doctors have declared the person incapacitated of making their own healthcare decisions.
